Birding & Leisure Locations
San Antonio has more than 2,300 acres of parks, linear parks and trails for you to enjoy during your visit to the Alamo City. City parks, natural areas, creekside trails and dog parks are located throughout the area. Look for what to do in San Antonio and you'll find plenty of great locations to hike, bike, birdwatch and even kayak as you explore all that the city has to offer through outdoor recreation. In February 2021, San Antonio was named a Bird City Texas.
Outdoor Adventures
Enjoy a variety of outdoor events and activities any time of year you visit San Antonio. So many fun things to do in San Antonio! Rent a bicycle to ride along the River Walk, join a scheduled San Antonio birding walk in an area park or take a guided kayaking trip on the San Antonio River. Segway tours and pedal pub excursions are available, too! Of course, check with each company listed for details.
Nature-oriented clubs
Conserving, preserving and caring for our natural resources is important to San Antonians. The Bexar Audubon Society, San Antonio Audubon Society, Native Plant Society, Sierra Club and many other non-profit organizations invite you to attend eye-opening presentations and take part in club activities, whether you're a resident or a visitor. Check each group's website for current status of meeting locations, as many are being held online due to the pandemic.
Discover Scenic San Antonio
San Antonio Ecotourism is an informational website dedicated to describing parks and preserves, outdoor San Antonio activities and nature-oriented organizations from an insider's perspective. If you're interested in San Antonio birding, you've come to the right place! The site was created by Lora Reynolds of Reynolds Write, a marketing copywriting firm. Lora is a member of Bexar Audubon Society, San Antonio Audubon Society, Alamo Area Master Naturalists and Professional Tour Guide Association—San Antonio.
